Canon Deluxe Gadget Bag 100EG

The Canon Deluxe Gadget Bag 100EG was designed with enough room to hold one or two camera bodies, three to four lenses, as well as an assortment of film, batteries, and other necessities for photographers. Featuring reinforced, padded pockets and compartments, the 100EG is a serious bag for the traveling photographer. Practical and attractive, the 100EG is a great way to protect your equipment from moisture and dust as well as the wear and tear that results from excessive handling.

5 Stars It works
Canon Deluxe Gadget Bag 100EG..

Fits my Canon S3 IS in the center main compartment.

Also fits my Canon SD 880 IS, in one of the side compartments.

Battery chargers for both cameras (along with spare batteries for each camera) fit in the front compartment.

Very handy bag, with room for 2 cameras, chargers, batteries, and perhaps one extra lens.

4 Stars A good small bag
I can fit my T1i (with lens on) and one (extra) lens/flash in this bag. Also, memory cards and extra battery can be kept in the pocket. In summary, a good small bag. If you need to store more than one extra lens, then this bag is too small.

5 Stars Great size and very useful!
I got this bag to hold my Canon Digital Rebel XSi (12.2 MP), my 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens and my 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens. At first I was worried it would be too small, but after looking at the images submitted by other reviewers, I decided to take the chance.

Everything fits GREAT. I love the easy clip in the front/all around zipper combination and there is plenty of room to keep extra betteries, cards, my charger and more.

I use the handle to carry it around, so I leave the shoulder strap off, but my husband loves the waste strap when he is using it.

If you are looking for a compact bag with lots of options, this is the bag for you!

5 Stars Let me tell you why this bag ROCKS
Alright, this is hands down the best bag of it’s size and function I have ever seen. I had bought this bag, and after my longtime camera broke, I gave it to a friend of mine. When I got a new camera, I figured I’d get another bag. When I went shopping again for a bag, I realized what a treasure this Canon bag was, and I had a hard time tracking it back down!

First off, I want to start with this brought forward, “for it’s size and function.” This bag is not big enough for all your toys. I chose it from the shelf of a camera store because I wanted a bag as small as possible that would hold my limited camera setup, so I could bring everything with me without having to “pack”, but small enough to actually carry around all day and not have it be in the way all the time. It’s roughly the same size as a woman’s purse (though a little squarer in shape). That said, I currently carry in it:

Nikon D200 body (with protective rubber body, which makes it a little bulkier)

Attached 18-200mm lens with hood

SB-600 speedlight

2 extra batteries

battery charger and cord

usb cord and card reader

video cord for plugging into RCA input

remote trigger and reciever

extra memory card

lens cleaning cloths and a tiny LED flashlight (about 3″ long)

a pez dispenser for plugging into the hotshoe (makes the kiddies smile) and extra pez

This makes it crowded enough to make it hard to get the camera in/out quickly, but fits everything for quick pick-up and carry. That said, taking the cords, pez, batteries, charger and extra CF card and putting them in a small pouch that hangs on the strap makes sufficient room to easily access everything else very easily. To me, the size is just right, but size is not why this bag rocks!

I ride offroad motorcycles and frequently take the camera with me. Off course, I’m concerned about it banging around or crashing and getting broken. This bag relieves this concern in several fundemental ways that I have yet to see on another bag.

First, look at the hardware. IT’S MADE OF METAL. the clips, zipper, hooks, NO PLASTIC. The hook at each end of the strap is a rotating clip. The way it’s designed makes it so that you cannot apply stress to the clips just by twisting, so they last a lot longer. Plus, the spring loaded clip is shaped such that it’s nearly impossible to accidentally unclip them, but very easy if you want to.

Second, look at the stitching. The solid metal ring on the bag that the strap clips to is inserted into nylon that is stitched all the way down the side of the bag and into the bottom. There six inches of stitching holding the strap on, and it’s all visible. Even the top handle is totally solid, I never worry about the strap coming loose, or breaking suddenly. The ones I was seeing in the store, were plastic clips, attached to 1/4″ wide strap

that had 1/2″ of stitching holding it in. On other bags, in an environment where the bag is undergoing some motion, those clips could break, the stitching could come out, or the strap that the clip is attached to could break – all in an instant without any sign of wear. With this bag, I can see how close anything is to breaking.

Third, and I can’t believe this is not touted in the item description, there is another strap on this bag! You can fold it back, tuck it inside a pouch in the back so that most of the time, the bag is just a regular shoulder strap orientation, but you can pull out this second strap that goes around your waist. Once again, the hardware on the second strap is high quality. On the motorcycle, this relieves most pressure from the shoulder strap, since it’s really strapped tightly around my waist. No bouncing around at all. However, extreme environments aside, when I’m just walking around town shooting, I take out the second strap, tie the bag to my back essentially, and it’s not constantly in the way swinging around, I don’t even notice it. In addition, with the extra strap, my shoulders don’t get as tired walking around with a heavy camera for a long time from a single shoulder strap.

Finally, and no one got a picture of this, there are plastic runners on the bottom of the bag, so as it’s used, picked up, put down, dragged around, whatever, it’s not wearing a hole in the bottom of the bag.

All in all, I was impressed at the quality in this bag when I first got it. When I start looking at other name brand bags that are supposed to do the same thing, I am amazed at the lack of quality in some of the most fundamental areas. If this bag ever wears out, I will seek out another one just like it again and again until someone else starts meeting some of the basic needs of an outdoor photographer.

5 Stars Canon Camera bat
Camera bag is nice and durable. Our Canon Ti1 fits snugly with two lenses (base plus telephoto) and a few small items (extra cards, cords, cleaning cloths and camera strap.) We recently found out that it is not waterproof. There is a lot of insulation, so the camera didn’t get wet (even in a pretty steady downpour.) We’ll be spraying it with scotchguard before our next big trip, though, so as not to have to deal with a damp bag. Got a great price on Amazon- the price at Target was about $20 more.

Canon EF S 18 200mm f 3 5 5 6 IS Standard Zoom Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras

Compact, lightweight and a wide magnification range – this standard zoom lens features a wide focal length range from normal to telephoto equivalent to 29-320mm in the 35mm format. It features an Optical Image Stabilizer for up to 4-stops of effective correction even at full zoom. Since Canon’s optical image stabilization system is in the lens, not in the camera, you can see the stabilized, steadier images through the viewfinder. And the circular aperture can give beautiful background blur effects. This new wide zoom ratio EF-S lens delivers excellent high-speed performance at an affordable price.

5 Stars Amazing!
This lens is the ultimate. I used to have to switch often between my 18-55mm and my 75-300mm lenses, but now with this I have most of both of those ranges. This lens produces such amazing quality. It did cost more than my Canon XSI but it sure improved it too. The image stabilizer is also the best I’ve seen on a lens. If you have the money, I definitely recommend this lens!

5 Stars A great, versatile lens.
Lens works as advertised and is, in my opinion, a great value among Canon lenses. It has become my primary lens. I especially like its relatively compact size for travel.

4 Stars Range, Versatility, and Accuracy
When looking at the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Standard Zoom Lens you see a lens that does a pretty good job at a lot of things, but is not perfect at any of them. It has a very nice zoom range, its wide angle ability is respectable, and its macro ability is adequate. All in all this lens does it all well and is the ideal first lens for any photographer. Then if you require a more task specific lens you may pursue at a later date.

The AF is fairly fast, but a tad noisy. (it’s not a USM motor, hence the noise) It handles low-light focusing well and the image stabilizer is very good. The lens lock ensures the lens won’t be sliding down as it’s slung over your shoulder provided you remember to lock it.

All in all this is the ideal first lens for anyone. It works very well across the spectrum without any real problems.

5 Stars Range vs. Distortion
Everybody already knows the 18-200 mm range comes in a package with barrel and pincushion distortion. Nevertheless with sophisticated or even free image softwares both distortions may be easily corrected. I think the price we have to pay for the wide range is fair. Construction is also great. I use it in my 30D and 50D and the 1.6 crop factor boosts the telephoto end. Overall is a great lens.

4 Stars Good compromise
I used this lens on a Digital Rebel Xti, and now on a 50D. It’s not perfect, but I feel it’s a good compromise considering the range and aperature it has. I’ve gotten the lens to produce some pretty good detail. There is some variation from wide to telephoto length, and there is some distortion present, as others have noted. I thought the focusing speed and noise level weren’t too bad, but not quite up to levels of higher-end lenses. I have not had any problem with zoom creep so far. I would recommend this lens if you need to travel light or carry one reasonably sized lens. It’s been handy to use when sightseeing and shooting a variety of subject matter.

Canon EW 83J Lens Hood for EF S 17 55mm f 2 8 IS USM Lens

Bayonet, petal form, two-claw removable hood; attachable in reverse. The Canon EW-83J Lens Hood, like all other Lens hoods, is primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Use this Hood for the 17-40 4.0L on a Crop Sensor
I purchased this hood to work with my 17-40 4L on my Canon 40D. The included hood with the lens is for a full frame sensor and does no good at all when the lense is on the 40D. Because the hood is made for a 17-xx EF-S Lens, it does a much better job of covering the actual viewing angle of the lens. I’ve used this hood for about a week and I get NO vignetting or Lens Flare what-so ever.

Just a note about the cost, I know this thing is over priced. It does have a lot of design that went into it though. The Math behind how these things work is not as easy as you would think. Also, it’s not just “a piece of plastic” it has an anti-glare finish on the inside of the hood that is similar to felt.

Ok, so overall, the hood works REALLY well with the 17-40 4L. (It’s kind of a shame it doesn’t come with the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS)

3 Stars Lens Hood for Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
I am pretty reluctant to buy this hood for my Canon 17-55m f/2.8 due to the price tag. Fortunately, I have Canon 10-22mm and the Canon EW-83E lens hood for this lens. It serves as a work-around for the 17-55 lens. Although it is not optimal for preventing the flare, it works well for the 17-55 lens for the protection purpose. Personally, I consider protection is more important than preventing the flare. So if you have Canon 10-22mm lens and the lens hood EW-83E, you may just use that lens hood for both lenses. I find it pretty convenient, too.

I bought this EW-83J hood since I saw a twenty something dollars sale on Amazon. This is the acceptable price for me. It works well for the 17-55 lens mounted on my Canon Rebel XSI. The hood is longer and narrower than the EW-83E and so it is better to avoid the flare for the 17-55 lens.

Functionally, I should give it 4 or 5 stars. The price tag drops it to 3 stars.

4 Stars A Must Have For Quality Pictures
It is the Canon OEM lens hood for their EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens. It fits perfectly and has three main advantages:

1. Cuts down lens flair

2. Improves contrast and image quality – two for one

3. Offers some protection to the front of the lens.

As has been pointed out in other reviews, this is an expensive piece of plastic and given the cost of Canon glass should be included with the lens purchase. But that is not the case. There are other options available. From some of the reviews I have seen of the knock-offs they do not always fit and/or work as well. So for me, given my Canon investment, I just bite the bullet and add the final piece I feel I get better results with. After all, I could buy cheaper glass.

This hood can be reversed on the lens for storage on the lens, but it will require a larger lens case for storage on the lens, if you use that option. And finally, it is a little tight getting the lens cap on/off with the hood in place, but it is doable.

4 Stars EW-83J Lens Hood for EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens
I bought this lens hood for my 17-55mm f/2.8 lens and have been pleased with it so far. It performs as it should. I hate that I actually had to purchase a lens hood based on the price for the lens. That’s on Canon though. In the end I’m happy with it.

4 Stars Caution when using built in flash
The hood is built for the EFS 17-55 mm lens, which is built for crop bodies. The bodies come with a built in flash, so it is natural to assume that everything is compatible. However, if you are using this hood and need a flash, you have to use an external flash. See the pictures of the shadow that the hood will cast when used with the built in flash.
