4 Stars It works!
O.K., you can’t find the Canon LP-E6 for your 5D Mark II without getting hosed big time by the supplier. This 7.2V 1800mAh Li-ion battery will do the trick until Canon gets its act together.
It appears well-made and identical to the Canon LP-E6. It powers the 5D Mark II nicely. That said, you should know:
1. DO NOT use the Canon charger–it will ruin the battery. Use the included charger. I labeled my battery AND charger so there will be no mix-up with the batteries.
Battery comes without a charge, but charges quickly. They recommend letting the light go green for two hours before first use.
2. Since there is no internal microchip, you can’t check the power level of the battery in the field–not even on the camera’s top LCD panel!
That said, the battery only costs [...] bucks as opposed to being gouged for $[...] plus, and it doubles the 5D Mark II’s already impressive capacity in the field.
3 Stars shipped timely, doesn’t support battery level indication in Canon 5D mark II
Works just fine, except that this isn’t compatible with my Canon 5D Mark II’s battery indicator. There must be a chip that Canon puts in their battery so that the camera can read the charge level or something. So, I don’t really know when I’m getting low on battery with this one. However, it is much more affordable than the Camera battery, and this is working just fine as a backup battery.
4 Stars You’d be a fool (or rich) not to buy two of these…
PROS
====
1. Beyond Inexpensive…
2. Works Wonderfully!!
3. Impeccable battery life for the price
4. Works as a back up battery charger (it’s supposed to charge the ‘genuine’ canon LP-E6)<--will I ever test it to find out? Only if I have to...
CONS
====
1. Doesn’t communicate with the camera –> A. no battery meter to tell you how much power is left / B. you can’t use the ‘battery memory’ options…(i.e. – the camera won’t remember the battery and how much charge is left should you pull it out and reuse it later) <--see your manual if you don't know what I'm talking about here.
2. You can’t use the standard battery charger…it will ruin the battery.
Conclusion
==========
Please read the title of this review again…
Yeah, I mean it…this battery really packs some good power. I mean, it really performs equally to the LP-E6. So you loose the convenience of knowing how much charge you have left. Not a big deal, just charge before you go and pack a spare…
Better yet, buy two of these batteries, compared to buying the genuine ones..you’ll be able to afford the generic battery grip – that’s where this battery shines…(in pairs)
(Zeikos ZE-CBG5DII Battery Grip for Canon 5D II) <-- be sure to check out my review of the battery grip...
I don’t mind not knowing how much power I have left as long as I know I have a ton of power. It’s kind of like having a broken fuel gauge on your car. Just fill up regularly (recharge) and keep track of your miles (power consumption) you’ll never have a problem…I haven’t yet.
I’m thinking of getting four, I’ll never run out of power!!
(I would have given 5 stars if this battery communicated with the camera) <--P.S. -- buy this item from BargainCell, you won't be disappointed in their service.

5 Stars Great!
Canon BG-E5 battery grip:
The ability to use 2 rechargeable battery packs is nice, and it even came with a tray to use regular AA batteries! The grip really gives the camera a more substantial feel and a more “pro” look.
5 Stars Canon BG-E5 Battery Grip
The batttery grip works as designed. I’m very satisfied with the product. The batteries last for a significant amount of time. The added weight and grith make the camera easier to hold. The grip has controls that make it more functional for taking photos. I would recommend this prolduct to people who want to improve the time between changing batteries or adding stability while holding their camera.
5 Stars Nice additional to your D-SLR
I got this battery grip for my Canon Rebel XSi as I read from reviews that it helped get a better grip on their cameras and make the batteries last longer because you can put 2 at once. I received the item in good condition. The Canon box was wrap with bubble pack inside the shipping box. The shipment was quick, in fact it was a few days earlier. It look good on my camera, make it look like a pro from afar. I would recommend to have this in one’s camera if they have the extra bucks. Although, it’s additional weight on your hands or neck, for me it’s a minor issue. I would definitely buy again at Amazon.
5 Stars I have a new hold on things now.
This is a wonderful addition to my Rebel. It makes everything so perfect. Now the camera feels right in my large hands. Thanks for getting it to me in a timely fashion. I will keep you in mind for future purchases. Thanks again.
5 Stars Get a grip
I chose the canon instead of the knock offs…my preference, does what it suppost to do and gives a real pro look to a great camera. Great controls.

5 Stars best high ISO camera EVER!
i am constantly amazed by the pictures i get from this camera. i love the extra width i get from full frame as well as the extra shallow depth of field. i’m a wedding/portrait photographer and this camera is beyond amazing for what i do.
if you shoot high ISO, you can’t beat this camera at the moment. i shoot ISO 6400 like it’s ISO 1600, it is that clean. and ISO 3200 is the new ISO 800 for me, i don’t even hesitate. i will not go above ISO 6400 though as you’ll start to see banding.
the lcd has me spoiled, so much so that i’m selling my 40d so that i can either get a 50d or the new 7d. on the 40d all of the pictures just look blah…and blurry. they still turn out good on the computer, but it can be very frustrating at the time. on the 5d II, you can tell right away if you’ve misfocused or if your exposure is off.
video quality is amazing though i don’t really use it for that.
autofocus is better than people like to give it credit for. i shoot mainly dimly lit receptions and it locks perfect whenever i need it to. i’m talking ISO 6400 f/1.6 1/30s dim. also i have no problem using outer focus points as they work great as well.
manual focus is a cinch with the 5d II. if you put the camera in live view, move the small box over what you want to focus on, then push the zoom button twice to see that box at pixel level. focus the lens and shoot away.
lenses used are 35mm f/1.4L, 85mm f/1.8, 16-35mm f/2.8L I, and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.
if you need high ISO and want full frame, this is the camera for you. if you don’t need either, save some money and get the 50d or 7d…or even a used 40d.
3 Stars This is a B – Camera
I am happy with the 5D mark 11. But I have on going issues. The screen decides to shut off by it’s self when reviewing photos. It has frozen and then shuts off. This is when I am using the camera. I hate the idea of a video in the camera. Canon should have focused on the camera and not at all on video. I have all Canon due to investing in lens. Unsure if Nikon is better. My partner uses Nikon D3. He loves it. And craps on mine all the time. But over all Canon should have did more testing and spent more time and money on this Camera. And forget a video. Over all I would say it’s a B- camera. I hate to say I like and trust my 50D more. I took the 50D to Argentina. It had no issues at over 10,000 shots and nearly a month from cold to jungles. But of course the 50D has major disadvantages over the 5D. Maybe step up to 1D……………..that’s a big jump.
5 Stars Love it!
Bought the 5d Mark II earlier this year. I’m a non-professional and first time full frame user. I’ve used a variety of cameras but not Nikon or Canon. I’ve EF lenses and have been using the camera for portraiture and scenic, in city, country, during winter and summer and am thrilled with the results (the enlargements are great). The movie function wasn’t an issue for me as, although I’ve tried it with good results, I could’ve done without it. It’s a little on the heavy side with the distance lenses which took a bit of getting accustomed to. No comment on price as, in my opinion, you often get what you pay for and I’m totally pleased. I work a lot in manual but I’ve not had any problem with the autofocus either. However, I did find it a little complicated at first – my problem not the mark II’s.
2 Stars Sub-par body & features
Great sensor & image quality. However, the camera lacks many features one would expect from a $2700 camera:
* Auto-focus points are poorly placed (focus and recompose doesn’t work well due to shallow depth of field).
* The CF card door creaks & is flimsy—this affects the grip; I can’t attach a heavy lens (24-70L) and hold the camera comfortably. This problem is very common and well documented (do a web search).
* Outer auto-focus points hunt quite a bit. The camera feels non-responsive when using outer AF points (I’m coming from 40D).
* The camera is quite heavy; I don’t see why it should be given the poor construction. Weight becomes a problem especially with heavier lenses (24-70L and 85 f/1.2L), where you get blurry shots more frequently (again, compared to 40D).
* Lack of pop-up flash is bothering (although I have an external unit); If Nikon can do it, why can’t Canon?
* Lack of auto-focus during video recording. Expect to get a lot of out of focus videos if you shoot family & kids. No 720p option. The video files are huge (~1 gig for 3-4 mins of video).
4 Stars Good Image, Poor Construction
I have been using this camera for 5 months with about 10000 shots. To canon’s credit, the images quality are excellent, so is the video. However, the huge pet peeve is the cheap memory card door. In order to hold this heavy camera, your palm will press firmly agaist the back of the handgrip, where the memory card door is located. This flimsy plastic door generates non-stop noise because of the pressure. This is particularly harmful when shooting video of concerts etc, as the noise gets amplified in the sound track. Extremely annoying in video play back. Can’t Canon make a better card door for this $2700 camera?
The other problem is several hot pixels when shooting video. Before I sent back the camera for service, I searched the internet and found a solution (now I forgot how, but it’s searchable with keywords). It works fine now. I didn’t bother to send it back.

5 Stars High-Quality, Low-Cost Alternative
Like you, I wanted a grip for my 5DII, but couldn’t stomach shelling out three times the cost of this grip for one. Since the Canon grip was out of the question for me due to it’s price, I took a chance on this grip from Zeikos, figuring I could resell it if unhappy and not lose too much. I am not disappointed and will be keeping it. It’s actually much higher quality than I expected for the price, has all the features of the Canon grip (AA battery tray, slot for battery door, all the same buttons repeated, shows all the battery information [shutter count and percentage] on the body, etc.), and actually makes the camera+grip look more like a one-piece unit since there is no additional text on the front of the grip. The only badging is on the bottom of the unit. The rubber, as mentioned in another review, is softer than the Canon grip, and I think it’s actually better – grippier and more comfortable. I had the Canon grip for my 40D and the only noticeable difference that I could see was that the wheel that you use to tighten down the grip to the body is slightly looser than the Canon. Once tightened, however, it’s very solid and does not flex or bend at all. I would highly recommend this grip to anyone who is looking for a high-quality, low-cost alternative to the Canon BG-E6 and would rather spend the savings on lenses. That’s me, and I suspect that might just be you, too.
5 Stars Less expensive then Canon product and it works GREAT!
This product works GREAT and is MUCH cheaper than the Canon product. I’m still stinging from the grip Canon sent for the 20D which never did work properly,
5 Stars Value for money
I have not used Canon Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark II, but with this price and quality i say, its worth the buy for any canon 5d mark ii user, who is looking for a battery grip, its very light without batter, comes with a quick user guide and simple box packing!
with in 100USD its a deal not worth missing
5 Stars Indistinguishable (to me) from Canon
I very rarely purchase non canon products for my Canon EOS camera systems, but I took a chance on this one based on all the positive reviews. I was not disappointed. This Battery Grip from Zeikos is a perfect fit for my Canon 5d Mark II, and appears to have all the functionality as the Canon Grip. It is well made, and has all the controls of the Canon product.
5 Stars Da Norm’s review for Zeikos Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark 2
I tried the Canon version, but after seeing this on Amazon, I returned the Canon grip and purchased the Zeikos instead. The only difference that I can tell is the price, the name, and some noticeable cosmetic difference. I would love to drop $250 on the Canon one, but with the new 100mm L Macro coming out, I can spend $160 on a new lens. There’s a debate on the internet that talks about buying expensive accessories for your expensive camera system. I disagree with that. You find what works for you and your budget.
Right now, Amazon is selling it for $91. Get the free shipping. It took about a week, but it’s here and in wonderful condition. Snap it on, and it works right away. The controls and the buttons function like the Canon one that I have used. I posted some pictures on the grip. I hope you can see what it looks like with the camera. Also, I picked up a replacement battery from Bargain Cell. It works just as well as the Canon version, but does not work with the battery meter. I save about $60. The hand strap I got from a local shop in Nashville, TN. I spent $30. You can find it for $5 less on Amazon.

Canon BG E6 Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark II Digital SLR

The EG-E6 Battery Grip is dedicated strictly to the EOS 5D Mark II, and permits one or two LP-E6 battery packs to be installed. With two packs, the battery life is doubled, compared to using a single LP-E6 pack in-camera. Especially for extended use of the EOS 5D Mark II’s movie mode or Live View, the BG-E6 is an outstanding accessory. The BG-E6 provides full vertical shooting controls, which can be independently turned on or off as the photographer desires.

5 Stars Grip o rama
it is effective, right size and full of features for when you hold the camera in 90 degree angle. you almost don’t lose any immediate functionality. i love it
4 Stars Great Item but pricey and not compatible to other models
This is not necessarily a must have but if you are going to be doing alot of shooting and don’t want to replace batteries too often then it is best to get this expansion slot. I own the original Canon EOS 5D and was disappointed that those batteries nor the grip would work on the new 5D Mark II. It is ideal for holding the camera in portrait (sideways) as it provides an extra shutter release and rotating wheel. This is a good buy if you think you need it. I removed 1 star because it is a little pricey and you will also need to buy an extra battery which is also pricey since Canon doesn’t like to keep compatibility with older models.
4 Stars The Canon BG-EG Battery Grip
I’m primarily a wedding shooter and as such I lug around usually at least two camera bodies and various lenses on top of that; so one would think that adding extra weight wouldn’t be the first thing that I’d prioritize? Yet, that is one of the primary reasons that I add the battery grip to at least one of my bodies. Why? The extra weight actually balances the camera better in your hands when you have one of the heavier lenses on, like the 70-200/2.8 IS wedding workhorse telephoto lens. Thus it’s easier to take a photo that is crisp and sharp, even thought the net weight is actually more than without.
Of course the battery grip also adds the an extra set of the most essential buttons, conveniently located when you shoot vertical. And shooting vertically I do in probably easily 75% or more of all the shots in a day’s work. But what about the extra battery and the added battery life? Yes, of course there is that, but for me personally that isn’t one of the top two for getting this particular accessory. Having said that, of course it’s convenient not to have to worry about swapping batteries as often as with out or having to shut down the camera to preserve power and risk missing an awesome shot.
The only drawback for me, is that although I’ve never had it come loose or anything like that, the actual mounting feels a bit flimsy for an accessory of this magnitude. Maybe I am biased as I’m used to shooting the 1D series and thus of course used to the battery grip being part of the camera body. Still I feel that it should feel more solid than it does now. One thing worth pointing out is that as you take off the original battery compartment door, it fits into a slot on the actual grip before the whole thing inserts into the camera, thus if you’re in the field and for some reason decide that you want to take off the grip, the original door is right there ready to be re-fastened in its place.
All in all I’d easily recommend this accessory to anyone serious about their shooting, especially with telephoto lenses on.
5 Stars Great Unit
The unit is top quality. It’s sturdy and well made. On the 5D it also really helps me handle the 28-300mm L series lens. Of course having 2 batteries also extents the time between recharging batteries.
4 Stars Expensive but necessary…
i bought this when there weren’t any knockoff battery grips. if i buy another 5d II in the future, i’m probably getting a plastic knockoff grip for my 2nd camera.
the way i shoot, i HAVE to have a battery grip. i don’t mind turning my wrist, but the time it saves me later straightening out all of my pictures makes it well worth it. plus, who can’t use the extra battery life?
other than that, everything works exactly how it’s supposed to. the grip matches up perfectly with the 5d mk II’s body and stays tight/looks great. every once in a while i’ll set it on my lap and accidentally take a few pictures or accidentally hit the shutter button while reviewing pictures…but all user error.
i rated this a 4 because it’s a little expensive. granted, i paid $300 for mine and now you can get them almost 20% cheaper than that. if you can’t afford it or don’t want to…read reviews, you’ll see there are some very good 3rd party plastic grips for the 5d II and decide for yourself if it’s worth the extra $160 or not.
