3 Stars This will do
Decided we would go with the cheaper model since the last one locked up on vacation and, as you know, cameras – no matter what you pay – are disposable items, when something goes wrong, there is no one to fix them, you simply buy a new one. This model is less expensive than our previous Cannon, and definitely feels cheaper. Case design, material etc, feels cheap but sturdy, it is a nice size, and takes the same memory chips as the previous one (different battery though). The controls are almost the same as the other, and it says it will take almost the same range of pictures as the higher end Cannon – less zoom though. There viewfinder is also missing on this model. As far as the purchase, everything was great – came as promised, etc, well packed, everything was there and worked. We have yet to use it other than to download pictures from the previous camera. Software was the same, so overall this is a good purchase so far.
5 Stars It just takes good pictures
Easy to use, very good battery life,Pictures are true to color. Red or blue looks very nice. 1 to 2 secs between shots, with flash on 4 to 6 secs, start up time is 1.5 to 2 secs. I use 2 aa energizer lithium batterys or 2650 to 2900mah rechargable batterys and can get 600 pictures. A 2 gig sd card san disk ultra II or III will give you about 750 pictures. The lcd screen is not the greatest but not bad for the price,it just will not show you how good your pictures really are. This camera does not have image stabilzertion but still does very well with out it.
4 Stars May be the perfect affordable digital camera.
I have several more expensive Canon cameras and bought this one for a student. I ran it through its paces first, and came away with a very favorable impression for a 10MP camera that sells for barely over $100. It is very easy to use and the picture quality is excellent. I like that it uses AA batteries which are easy to find anywhere. In addition to its standard “automatic” mode it has several options for “custom” modes. It has the normal “macro” setting for close-ups, but it has even another mode for very extreme close-ups which I find handy. It also records good video with sound, and you can play it back in various slow motion speeds if you want, in the camera or on a big screen TV. All in all I give it very high marks and especially for its price range. Its only disadvantage I could find is it is just a bit thicker than other small pocket cameras.
4 Stars Best of the cheap
I am a real estate agent so I have been through a lot of point and shoot cameras. While I use a Rebel SLR to take my main pics, I chose this one to take anywhere since it’s small enough to pack and forget. The price is right, the quality is great, and it’s easy to use. Very intuitive. It is also easy to download pics to a computer. Actually this is my 2nd one. My kids dropped the first one and the zoom motor was broken, frozen in place. I can’t really blame the camera given that they dropped it from pretty high onto a hard tile floor. I figured that my shipping, return, hassle, etc. would cost more than the camera so I just immediately ordered a new one. That’s why I didn’t give it 5 stars. But still, at this price, it can’t be beat, in my opinion.
5 Stars Great camera, great price.
Well reviewed, great little camera at the best price around on Amazon. I wanted a camera that would produce great pictures, be small and easy to use, and also be relatively durable for a child. This is the one that all my research pointed me to. So far we have not been disappointed.

5 Stars I want one too!!
I bought this camera for my daughter’s sixteenth birthday. She loves it! The picture and video quality is great. I wanted the camera to be small enough to carry in a purse, but not so small that your hand engulfs the camera when you take a picture. This camera is the perfect size. There are lots of scene options to play with and lots of great features to help you get the best pictures possible. We added a 4 GB memory card and two rechargeable batteries. Now I want to buy this camera for myself!
4 Stars Excellent value, but you can tell the difference
Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. It is an excellent camera for my wife who wanted something she could easily carry around in a purse or a pocket, and is easy to use. It takes good pictures. However, for a 10MP camera, the pictures are noticeably less sharp then higher priced cameras I’ve used. I figure it must be the optics.
5 Stars Gift for Daughter
I bought this for my daughter when she was expecting her first child. She wanted a good camera before the baby came. She liked my camera, a Canon PowerShot A750, and wanted one like it. Well the price for the 750 had gone way up. I found this one, on Amazon, and emailed her the link. She said it was just what she wanted. She is very happy with the camera. It is easy to use, has just enough settings that she can “get her feet wet” before she buys a more complicated one. She was looking at an SLR but we felt that it would be too much for a beginner. She has taken some good pictures with the camera so far and has it at the hospital now as I write this. (Baby boy, 7lbs. 12 oz. and she says she has gotten some nice pictures of him.) Sorry this isn’t a real technical review but I’m not a real technical person. We both love our Canon cameras and would recommend them to everyone.
5 Stars For the price – it cannot be beat
I’ve owned this camera for 6 months and it is one in a long line of Cannon camera’s I have owned.
There are no consumer cameras with better lenses and color rendition than Canon. I had some issues with
my Canon $350 SD950 – but it was never picture quality – it was durability. I am pleased to say
that the A1000 gets high marks for both durability and picture quality. It has taken a lot of abuse
including being dropped from three feet on a concrete floor, being sprayed with a hose, and being caught in a dust storm.
I bought it as soon as it came out because it uses AA batteries and I never have to worry about
having batteries. Get decent quality AA’s and the camera has battery life comparable to any consumer point-and-shoot. There was no 12MP version available when I bought this but 10MP is adequate for most purposes. (I am a little concerned with the upgraded version – the 12MP A1100 because I recently bought one from Amazon and within a few days the lens refused to open. Of course Amazon stands behind their products and the exchange for a new camera was quick and cost nothing because we were in the 30 day window – which Amazon actually extends to about 37 days because of shipping. Thank you Amazon.)
I read in a few reviews about the door that you open to insert the batteries and the SD card. It did
concern me at first, but it didn’t take long to get the hang of it. Be aware that batteries have
to fit snugly for the current to flow properly, especially with AA’s, so there has to be some pressure on them and that explains the design of the door.
I have heard that this camera has been very well-received by the public and I cannot believe that the
street price actually went up rather than down, as is common. This camera reminds me of the basic Toyota Camry – sturdy and reliable.
4 Stars Good camera
It is a good camera and easy to use, I thought it is made in Japan though! it is made in Malaysia

5 Stars New Camera
This particular camera is excellent, especially for the price. I had actually bought this to record a concert,(Nine Inch Nails). did really good, besides the poor lighting that went with the ballroom. Did not help what so ever. Got great audio. Got great videos. So if looking to buy a great camera to do a great job I would choose this one.
5 Stars Great Product
Great camera for first-time user of digital cameras. Easy to use. Clear photos. Wonderful service.
2 Stars MY FIRST USED CAMERA
WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA I KNEW IT WAS USED SLIGHTLY AND AFTER IT ARRIVED I DID NOT SEE ANY USE INSTRUCTION (MANUAL)BOOKLET WITH IT I TRIED TO USE MY EXPERIENCE WITH A DIGITAL CAMERA I HAD WHICH IS SONY WAS TOTALY DIFERENT, I CALLED THE SELLER AND LEFT A MESSAGE AND HE OR SHE DID NOT RETURN MY CALL, I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE SENT THE INSTRUCTION WITH IT BUT I AM STILL TRYING TO LEARN ABOUT IT,MY ADVISE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BUY USED ELECTRONIC MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR USER MANUAL, IT WILL HELP AND SAVE YOU TIME AND HEADACH. MR FROM LOUISIANA
5 Stars Great Zoom
I had this camera for several month now and discovered that the optical zoom is a great feature.
If you want cheap camera with great abilities – this is your chance. You would not be able to create super effects that $1000 camera can do, but this one is great for simple point to shoot.
It is not very light camera and the battery life is not so great, since it is AA batteries we are talking about. But if you have rechargeable batteries, like I do, it helps a lot. I also have an additional pair of batteries with me when I have long shooting to do.
Remember to read all the features upfront. When it states in the review that it is take a few seconds for camera to recharge the flash – it is true, so if you don’t like it, then don’t buy this camera, but if it is not bothering you, than go ahead and make a purchase. I new that I will have this issue with flash, but it didn’t bother me, so I’ve got this camera.
One small thing that I don’t like is the opening for battery and memory card. It is not easy to get open and I afraid that might break at some point.
I would recommend this camera.
1 Star 1 trip, 2 Canon Camera Failures
On the 2nd day of my 5 month long trip to Mexico my Canon Xti failed to function. I needed a camera! I am in a small town, a 9 hour bus ride from a city. The best camera I could find was a Canon Powershot A470. I bought it. Four days later I got the “lens error restart camera” message and got it repeatedly. So, I’ll be without camera for the next four weeks. When I do get to the city the new camera I will be buying will not be a Canon. I begin to sympathize with the guy who gives negative reviews to all new Canon cameras, maybe he is performing a public service.Canon PowerShot A470 7.1MP Digital Camera with 3.4x Optical Zoom (Gray)]]Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Black Body Only)
