Precision Design DSLR300 Universal High Power Auto Flash with Zoom Bounce Swivel Head for Canon Rebel XT XTi XS XSi EOS 30D 40D 50D 5D SLR Cameras

This universal high-power flash unit for Canon digital SLR cameras is the perfect accessory for any photographer looking for reduced red-eye, evenly lit subjects, or more power for telephoto shooting. This flash can be effective at ranges of over 50 feet, reduces shadows, and adds depth to your pictures thanks to the adjustable head, which zooms, swivels and tilts for added versatility.

3 Stars Precision Flash
For the price, this flash is fine for simpler projects. The multi directional swivel capability is great. It locks and releases easily onto my Canon 350D. I used it for portrait session and it was cool. When I attempted to move around with it and shoot more spontaneously, the flash reset proved to be rather slow and cause me to miss an important shot — no rapid fire. Make sure to replace batteries often, because the more you use the flash, the slower it resets.

5 Stars Does the job for a Great Price!
This product does a great job. I love that it can do a 360 which is super helpful when I take veritcal photos. The lighting is more equal that way, rather than it being only one direction. Delivery and packaging was fine, everything came in one pc. :) I would recommend this product for starters and plan to order thru this co. again.

5 Stars Good Value Flash
I am an amateur photographer and I love the price and versatility of this flash. Perfect for anyone starting out!

3 Stars My experience with the Precision Design Flash
The flash was a little difficult to use at first. I was in a gym at a volleyball game and the lighting was very dim. I had to adjust the flash several different times to acquire a clear picture – which meant I missed some “Kodak” moments. I am learning how to bounce the light but overall it is a good product.

3 Stars Not as flexible as you might think
I found this flash disappointing. I am not a professional photographer but I am experienced and have owned Cannon SLR’s and done some medium format photography. To the positive it does tilt, swivel and the flash head does have a 4 position zoom shroud. It has an auto sensor that is designed to adjust the power of the flash. It comes with a PC cord which the instructions indicate, “is NOT required for normal use,” (their emphasis.)

As to the negative, the only link in the mount from the flash to the camera, a Canon Rebel XS, is just for the purpose of firing the flash. The instructions direct you to set the camera to manual exposure control, adjust the shutter speed to 1/60th of a second, ISO speed to 200 and the lens aperture to F4. You can pretty well forget action shots at 1/60th. Also, in practice I found that the flash was firing so strong that skin tones seemed bleached. In addition the cycle time of the flash with fresh batteries, based on the manufacturer’s instructions, is 1 – 6 seconds. Again no action shots, certainly you will lose a quick follow-up shot. In practice the cycle time seems just over a second with fully charged batteries.

The flash can be used but only within limited guidelines. The DSLR300 was specified for this model camera and yet is not receiving the data from the camera. The two do not work in harmony together. I don’t mind shooting in manual, in truth I prefer the control. What I don’t like is knowing that the camera and flash are not communicating fully. The flash is holding the performance of the camera back since it can only function in restrictive capacities. You can aim it where you want but after that the camera (and photographer) will be doing the serious work of trying to compensate for the limitations of the flash.

I recognize that this is not an expensive flash and it would not be fare to expect it to perform on the same level as the Canon Speedlite 430EX II. However, when you advertise that it is designed to perform on the Canon platform I expect full functionality. If they advertised the limitations so the consumer can make an informed choice I would not have had an issue.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Prettu much as advertised
Backpack is pretty well designed and wears nicely. Only problem I have with it is the area in which we carry the Canon Mark II and Canon 28-300 IS Lens. The camera area could be a little deeper and better padded. Plenty of room for extra lenses, filters converters, etc. Overall, worth the money.

5 Stars has additional room for more
The real test of this product is how well it will stand up over time with normal use. I’ve owned it for several weeks so it is too early to tell. Judging from the stitching, zippers and materials, it looks like it may stay together for a long time. It holds my Rebel SLR, Canon 70-200 telephoto, 55-250, 18-55, 50 prime, flash unit, charger, batteries, cables, cleaning kit and many other small items and still there is room for another SLR body or additional lens. Lots of zippered pockets. I am pleased with this purchase.

3 Stars Great but oversized carryall…
**Brand new needing to re-sell** I bought this as a gift for my mother because she is acquiring a lot of camera equipment and currently has a bag that can’t hold everything. I thought this would be perfect. It would hold everything in it’s place and she could wear it instead of carry it. It turns out the bag was huge! It definintely could hold everything, but didn’t leave much in the way of style. She hasn’t used it and I will probably try to re-sell it since the 30 day return period is up. My mom is a small woman who is still in the beginning stages of photography, so it would be great for someone who wouldn’t mind it’s bulkiness or a more experienced photographer that would appreciate all it’s uses more often. I guess I was thinking that it would be somewhere between a camera bag and backpack in size. I cannot comment on comfort, sturdiness or design because my mom hasn’t used it. It was just the wrong thing to buy for her…but it might be the right thing for you.

5 Stars cool backpack
This backpack is so cool. It holds everything in special compartments that you can change the size of. I really like this option. I can fit my cameras, lens, battery chargers, batteries, etc. all in different compartments for easy access. Extra zipper pouches make great storage too! I would definitely recommend this backpack/camera case to a friend.

5 Stars Great Camera Bag – Tough As Nails!
I’ve had numerous camera bags and hard cases over the years, but never a Backpack style bag. This one looked good with all of its adjustable compartments, pockets plus the backpack features. So, I got one and I’m glad I did. This bag is in daily use, getting pulled in and out of the car, carried around, unzipped and zipped, on average six days/week, often everyday – I don’t go anywhere without my cameras. I usually just carry it by grabbing the left side shoulder strap and slinging it on. After a lot of regular use, nothing is getting loose, ripped or pulled apart. I’m amazed because I’m not easy on it. I keep waiting to see a rip somewhere, expecially on that left shoulder strap, but it hasn’t happened. Also, the zippers have proven very durable with no sign of wear or potential for separation. For anyone looking for a backpack style bag, this is it – Plus, it has CANON on it and if you’re a Canon Camera “fiend”, like I am, you just have to have a bag that proudly says CANON!!

Lowepro Nova 160 AW Camera Bag Black

For 1 Digital SLR with 18-55mm or 17-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lens attached plus 1-2 additional lenses, 2 memory cards and a flash unit

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Perfect for Canon Rebel XS with 3 lenses
I use my bag told hold my Rebel XS as well as all my lenses and have no complaints so far. The lenses I keep in the bag are the Canon 55-250mm IS with hood reversed, the Canon 50mm f1.8, and the Canon 18-55mm IS. I can store all of them without feeling like I am cramming too much in, and can store the camera with any of the lenses attached to it. I had looked at the Nova 140, but it did not have enough space to hold the camera with the 55-250 attached, so it was out. This bag also has lots of pockets for all the goodies you need to carry, including USB cable, cards, filters, etc. This would not work for a full frame camera, but for a consumer SLR such as the Rebel XS, this fits the bill quite nicely.

5 Stars The perfect day kit bag
I have been using Lowepro bags for a long time and I’m always amazed at the simplicity of the design. This bag is perfect as my daily grab-and-go bag for my Pentax K-7 kit. It’s weather-proof, just like my Pentax gear so I don’t have to worry about the occasional rain or snow shower. I keep my SLR with a prime lens in one side (actually laying on the side with the grip facing up for quick access) and have room on the other side for another lens and some filters. The strap is well made and is easy to adjust. The zippers are well made and zip easily open and closed. The bag has an overall well-made fit and finish and is a joy to use. The top handle is padded and very comfortable to hold for short periods or while moving the bag around. Like most other top-flap designed bags, the handle on the top isn’t very useful unless the bag is zippered and clasped closed. A short handle strap instead of a handle would have been a better choice for me, but I’m really nitpicking here.

The memory card pockets and zippered pocket on the inside face of the top cover are perfectly placed. There are a couple of elastic pockets on the outside of each end of the bag along with a zippered pocket on the back (probably only large enough for pamphlets or a map) as well as a compact zippered pocket on the front where I keep some smaller filters. If you have a compact DSLR and are looking for a compact bag to go along with it, I would highly recommend this bag. I can sling it over my shoulder and take it with me wherever I go and it hardly weighs anything. Highly recommended!

5 Stars High Quality…Perfect!
I was trying to find the perfect camera bag for my new Olympus SP565uz and stumbled upon this product…am I ever glad I did! It’s light-weight, just big enough without looking like I’m pretending to be a professional photog, and until I become adept enough with my new camera to buy an add’l lense, the extra section can hold a bag of snacks! Velco strips enable you to block off just the right inside space to house your camera.

It has many pockets, so I can stash my credit card holder, passport and even my tiny-print camera manual. Pockets just for my extra X-D Picture cards, extra batteries, etc. On both sides, on the outside, are mesh pockets perfect for a couple small water bottles.

The feature that really sold me was the fold-over top, so there’s no chance rain can creap in through the zipper…it even has its own “raincoat” stashed in the front pocket. Kudos to whoever designed this!!

5 Stars Just what I needed
Couldn’t be happier with this bag. The photo in the Amazon add makes it appear green, but it’s really a very nice brown. anyway, it’s good quality, holds everything I need (I’m a video producer for the Air Force, but not a photographer, so I’m limited on what I need for my home photo needs). So this holds my K2000, extra lens, flash unit and all the little things I need for it — SDHD cards, spare batteries, etc. This bag won’t hold much more than that, but it holds this much very well. Haven’t used the weather-protection cover yet. My son recently purchased a Canon camera as well, and I recommended going with a Lowepro bag.

5 Stars Well built and roomy camera bag
Got this bag for a Canon SX10 IS. It easily holds the camera, spare batteries and charger, adapters, filters, SD cards, AV and usb cables, etc. It has a rain fly that pulls out of the bag to cover the bag when its raining. Actually it’s a little large for the SX10 IS. I would rather have a little extra space than not enough. Very happy with the Nova 160.

5 Stars Lowepro Fastpack 100
This is a good size pack for the beginner to intermediate level photographer. The build and design quality is excellent, the adjustable compartments are a nice feature to allow for your items to have a custom fit. The largest compartment is just barely big enough to fit my telephoto lense. I use mine for both day and weekend trips and like it a lot.

5 Stars Lowepro 100 – Great Backpack
I was reluctant to carry around a substantial sized backpack, but as I got more camera equipment, I realized I really needed to. This is not huge, but it holds a lot and is actually quite comfortable to wear. I am pleasantly surprised.

5 Stars This is a great and well made product.
I bought this bag for a nikon D70S. It fits well and has all kinds of extas.

5 Stars Great, Compact & Snug Fit Backpack…
I bought this for my new SLR Camera Nikon D5000. My camera fits perfectly with the attached lens Nikon 18-55mm VR DX. You can even fit another lens in the generously padded compartment. Other than that, I also managed to fit in an additional SD Card, SD Card reader, 2 battery packs, battery charger, 2 cables, cleaning accessories, a bottled water on the side pocket and a lunch pack on top of the small compartment. Everything just fit snugly and compact, which I prefer. Definitely a must to have!

Update: I have just bought another Nikon lens 55-200mm and and they fit perfectly with the other lens I have.

5 Stars Great Little Walk-Around Bag
The Lowepro Fastpack 100 is a great walk-around camera bag. Although some people have given this bag a few bad reviews, there is a fine line between size with the fastpack series, and if you need something larger, don’t buy the Fastpack 100 model and expect it to accomodate your camera body and all of your telephoto lenses.

Having said that, this bag was perfect for me. I never take all of my lenses with me, unless I am traveling, and the Lowepro Fastpack 100 is certainly no travel bag. With a little additional room to spare, I can comfortably fit my Nikon D60 with older 35mm f/2.5 lens attached, as well as the 18-55mm kit lens, and a 50mm f/1.8 pancake lens. And although I mentioned that this is not a travel bag, many accessories including a battery charger, power cord, USB cable, extra battery and pop-up flash diffuser can fit into the camera compartment alone. Elsewhere, I can pack my camera’s body cap, complete cleaning kit (with cloth, lens cleaning solution, blower and brush), four SD cards and camera manual into the top compartment. There is even room for a sandwich, handkerchief or back-up point&shoot camera. A side-pouch with netting is the perfect place to store a water bottle or thermos, and I’m not necessarily referring to the tiny average-sized water bottle, either.

As far as comfort goes, this bag is top of the line. I hardly notice I’m wearing it, even when it’s home to all of the items mentioned above. There’s also a convenient velcro cellphone pouch on one strap, which allows my phone a better and more consistent signal than when in my pocket- a neat touch. The bag is light and provides more freedom of movement than a shoulder bag or even a camera holster. I have broad, somewhat-sloping shoulders, and most of the backpacks I have tried in the past slip over either shoulder. This does not seem to be a problem with the Fastpack. And accessing your camera is as easy as slipping the bag from one shoulder, and bringing it up to your chest. (See the video above the image description, on the product page) The Lowepro Fastpack 100 provides great protection for your camera. The padded dividers and walls in and around the camera compartment are very sturdy and I have no doubt in my mind that they’d be more than sufficient in protecting my gear if the bag was dropped from a height of ten feet or more.

All in all, this is a great walk-around camera bag that can easily store a camera with attached kit lens, with additional room for two primes or a medium-sized telephoto, and countless smaller accessories. If you only carry two or three lens with you, and already have a larger bag for organizing all your gear, then this is the bag to go with.
