I bought this for a new Canon T1i and it works great. The car charger is a nice touch. I can’t say that it lasts twice as long as the Canon battery, but it lasts at least as long.

Bought this as an additional battery for my Canon Xsi, the extra charger was just a bonus but a bonus that turned out to be even better then expected, not only is it an AC charger but also comes with the vehicle charger adaptor as well as the universal charger adaptor for over-seas.

Having a new camera for taking pictures of museum artifacts (primarily), I needed spare batteries. Problem was that the OEM battery was ~$70 USD each which would reduce the number of spares I could pack. Also, the OEM charger was AC only, so would not allow for recharging while in transit. Opteka to the rescue! Inexpensive batteries and a dual AC & DC charger fit my needs exactly. I used the batteries for all day shooting of museum aircraft (which means lots of flash usage) and they performed at least as well as the OEM battery. Recharging was quick also, being less than 90 minutes in the car, so I could always have charged batteries on hand. Excellent value and performance overall, highly recommended for the amateur photog, perhaps even for the pro.

I bought these batteries together with my new Rebel XSi to have backup batteries. I am very, very satisfied and surprised how long and efficient they are. For just only a fifth of the price of the original product you can’t do anything wrong!
I went on a two week trip and shot about 1200 pictures with a total of maybe 2.5 batteries.
I can’t say anything about the lifetime yet.

Seems to have about the same life as the LP-E5, but costs about 80% less. I don’t have long-term experience with it but it’s fine in my Rebel T1i.

I am glad I did not spend as much money as I would have, had I bought a Canon one. This one works just fine, and it keeps me from running out of battery in my trips.

2 Stars got what you paid for
Fully charged it after some use of it already and seems as if it has the memory effect. The XSi camera’s battery icon shows it has at least half of the juice left before the camera stops working. Well, you trade 1/2 of the battery capacity for 3/4 of the cost. A good deal? In the shooting field, you may have twice the chance to have to change the battery at that monemt you wish you were not, like I was. Not sure if other 3rd party batteries more or less the same issue…..

Not as good as Canon, but for the money this will work great for a backup battery! I would say it lasts about 75% as long, and have not had any problems with it.

Didn’t try the Opteka batteries in the Canon wall-charger as I was the Opteka charger, so cannot comment on capability. I recommend the charger & battery combination anyway because of the DC car plug.

Been using this battery now for over 3 months with my T1i.
Holds its charge a looong time. I haven’t timed it, but it feels at least twice as long as the standard battery.
…and you can’t beat the price.
Advice: if you’re looking to get an extra battery, get this one.
1 Star The marked voltage worries me a great deal
The Canon Xsi ships with, and is rated for, a 7.4v battery. This is listed as 7.2v on the box, the battery and on the Opteka website. I was told by a Marketplace Vendor that the 7.2v is a “misprint,” but there is no way of truly knowing and it’s enough to make me worry. I’d hate to damage a $$$$ camera over a $ battery. This one is going in the garbage and I’m going with the Canon Equivalent LP-E5 Battery which is marked with the correct information (7.4v!), has a solid reputation, and is currently selling for a better-than-amazon price on Diamondback Battery’s website.

Who would have thought that the kit did not include Canon batteries? Well, it doesn’t – it includes off brand batteries that I’m hoping will be every bit as good as Canons. Otherwise, price was good, product was as promised and new in the box. I’ll let you know how the batteries hold up….
5 Stars Life saver
I tend to shoot time-lapse with my Rebel and if I use the flash I use a lot so this perfect. The batteries that come with it are NOT as powerful as the Canon ones. So Its probably a good idea to have 2x Canon Batteries mix them with 2x Generic. I was able to get about 6-7 hours of shooting taking a photo ever 30s or every 1min no flash no preview screen etc..
Also a huge plus to this for anyone that shoots a lot is the side buttons.
5 Stars Perfect addition to XT when using larger lenses and a hotshoe flash
Before getting this battery grip, when I would use my XT with the Canon 17-55 F2.8 IS and a hotshoe flash mounted there would be unnecessary strain on my wrist. After installing the grip the camera feels much more balanced in my hands, and I feel less discomfort even though the overall weight has gone up. Being able to load two batteries into the camera is also a huge plus.
The package ordered from Cameta Camera came with third-party batteries. This doesn’t really bother me at all, because:
1. They work.
2. Canon batteries cost ~$50 each.
3. If they don’t last as long, they will be inexpensive to replace.
Overall a great package, and well worth it for your XT/XTi.
5 Stars Canon Battery Grip
First off, as some other reviewers have said, the batteries that come with the package are NOT Canon. The product listing is less than clear about this. They are made by CTA Digital. I am not complaining about this because the grip alone was selling for more than the grip with the batteries when I purchased it. So even if the batteries were junk, its still a better price on the grip. As it is, the batteries charged fine and seem to work just the same as the Canon ones I have.
The grip is what you would expect and is a genuine Canon part. I strongly do not recommend buying some of the 3rd party grips that are on the market, as they are just not up to the quality that they should be.
I think the grip should just come with the camera, it’s what I consider to be an essential accessory. Once you have a decent lens and a flash mounted on the camera, it becomes top heavy and hard to hold without the grip. The grip will also increase the number of portrait orientation shots you take, as it makes doing so much easier. As soon as you start using it, you will wonder how you ever worked without it.
Don’t forget that if you have a camera bag or case, make sure the camera will fit into it with the grip mounted. It is not something you want to be constantly taking on and off of the camera.

Fits camera perfect and takes forever to run down the batteries. Just what you need when on vacation and forget to charge your batteries. Also comes with “AA” battery attachment.
