5 Stars Great Camera
Just go to auto mode and shoot away. One of the smartest Auto modes I’ve used in any camera. Picture is kind of grainy at 100% but who cares. I don’t upload 4000×3000 images anyway. Great, solid feel. Buttons are small but still very much usable.

4 Stars Small and Portable
I LOVE this camera, the quality of the pictures are incredible and the zoom is outstanding. My only issue is the static it has before you snap a photo and after you record a video. Aside from that I won’t trade it for any other

5 Stars Great little camera
This little camera is awesome! It fits great in my purse, it takes beautiful pictures and videos and is very easy to use.

5 Stars Love it!
I love this camera! It takes beautiful pictures. I highly recommend it. But be ready to read the manual. The things this camera can do are amazing! I still have yet to learn what all the buttons do. But then again, I’m not that technologically savvy.

5 Stars Pocket Camera
Easy to carry in your pocket. Image stabilization works well. Just finished two week vacation and batteries still have 3/4 charge.

5 Stars Great camera, great price.
Well reviewed, great little camera at the best price around on Amazon. I wanted a camera that would produce great pictures, be small and easy to use, and also be relatively durable for a child. This is the one that all my research pointed me to. So far we have not been disappointed.

5 Stars It just takes good pictures
Easy to use, very good battery life,Pictures are true to color. Red or blue looks very nice. 1 to 2 secs between shots, with flash on 4 to 6 secs, start up time is 1.5 to 2 secs. I use 2 aa energizer lithium batterys or 2650 to 2900mah rechargable batterys and can get 600 pictures. A 2 gig sd card san disk ultra II or III will give you about 750 pictures. The lcd screen is not the greatest but not bad for the price,it just will not show you how good your pictures really are. This camera does not have image stabilzertion but still does very well with out it.

4 Stars May be the perfect affordable digital camera.
I have several more expensive Canon cameras and bought this one for a student. I ran it through its paces first, and came away with a very favorable impression for a 10MP camera that sells for barely over $100. It is very easy to use and the picture quality is excellent. I like that it uses AA batteries which are easy to find anywhere. In addition to its standard “automatic” mode it has several options for “custom” modes. It has the normal “macro” setting for close-ups, but it has even another mode for very extreme close-ups which I find handy. It also records good video with sound, and you can play it back in various slow motion speeds if you want, in the camera or on a big screen TV. All in all I give it very high marks and especially for its price range. Its only disadvantage I could find is it is just a bit thicker than other small pocket cameras.

4 Stars Best of the cheap
I am a real estate agent so I have been through a lot of point and shoot cameras. While I use a Rebel SLR to take my main pics, I chose this one to take anywhere since it’s small enough to pack and forget. The price is right, the quality is great, and it’s easy to use. Very intuitive. It is also easy to download pics to a computer. Actually this is my 2nd one. My kids dropped the first one and the zoom motor was broken, frozen in place. I can’t really blame the camera given that they dropped it from pretty high onto a hard tile floor. I figured that my shipping, return, hassle, etc. would cost more than the camera so I just immediately ordered a new one. That’s why I didn’t give it 5 stars. But still, at this price, it can’t be beat, in my opinion.

3 Stars This will do
Decided we would go with the cheaper model since the last one locked up on vacation and, as you know, cameras – no matter what you pay – are disposable items, when something goes wrong, there is no one to fix them, you simply buy a new one. This model is less expensive than our previous Cannon, and definitely feels cheaper. Case design, material etc, feels cheap but sturdy, it is a nice size, and takes the same memory chips as the previous one (different battery though). The controls are almost the same as the other, and it says it will take almost the same range of pictures as the higher end Cannon – less zoom though. There viewfinder is also missing on this model. As far as the purchase, everything was great – came as promised, etc, well packed, everything was there and worked. We have yet to use it other than to download pictures from the previous camera. Software was the same, so overall this is a good purchase so far.

5 Stars New Camera
This particular camera is excellent, especially for the price. I had actually bought this to record a concert,(Nine Inch Nails). did really good, besides the poor lighting that went with the ballroom. Did not help what so ever. Got great audio. Got great videos. So if looking to buy a great camera to do a great job I would choose this one.

5 Stars Great Product
Great camera for first-time user of digital cameras. Easy to use. Clear photos. Wonderful service.

2 Stars MY FIRST USED CAMERA
WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA I KNEW IT WAS USED SLIGHTLY AND AFTER IT ARRIVED I DID NOT SEE ANY USE INSTRUCTION (MANUAL)BOOKLET WITH IT I TRIED TO USE MY EXPERIENCE WITH A DIGITAL CAMERA I HAD WHICH IS SONY WAS TOTALY DIFERENT, I CALLED THE SELLER AND LEFT A MESSAGE AND HE OR SHE DID NOT RETURN MY CALL, I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE SENT THE INSTRUCTION WITH IT BUT I AM STILL TRYING TO LEARN ABOUT IT,MY ADVISE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BUY USED ELECTRONIC MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR USER MANUAL, IT WILL HELP AND SAVE YOU TIME AND HEADACH. MR FROM LOUISIANA

5 Stars Great Zoom
I had this camera for several month now and discovered that the optical zoom is a great feature.

If you want cheap camera with great abilities – this is your chance. You would not be able to create super effects that $1000 camera can do, but this one is great for simple point to shoot.

It is not very light camera and the battery life is not so great, since it is AA batteries we are talking about. But if you have rechargeable batteries, like I do, it helps a lot. I also have an additional pair of batteries with me when I have long shooting to do.

Remember to read all the features upfront. When it states in the review that it is take a few seconds for camera to recharge the flash – it is true, so if you don’t like it, then don’t buy this camera, but if it is not bothering you, than go ahead and make a purchase. I new that I will have this issue with flash, but it didn’t bother me, so I’ve got this camera.

One small thing that I don’t like is the opening for battery and memory card. It is not easy to get open and I afraid that might break at some point.

I would recommend this camera.

1 Star 1 trip, 2 Canon Camera Failures
On the 2nd day of my 5 month long trip to Mexico my Canon Xti failed to function. I needed a camera! I am in a small town, a 9 hour bus ride from a city. The best camera I could find was a Canon Powershot A470. I bought it. Four days later I got the “lens error restart camera” message and got it repeatedly. So, I’ll be without camera for the next four weeks. When I do get to the city the new camera I will be buying will not be a Canon. I begin to sympathize with the guy who gives negative reviews to all new Canon cameras, maybe he is performing a public service.Canon PowerShot A470 7.1MP Digital Camera with 3.4x Optical Zoom (Gray)]]Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Black Body Only)

Canon Rebel XS 10 1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF S 18 55mm f 3 5 5 6 IS Lens Black

Ideal for a wide range of photographers from first-time digital SLR users to veteran photo enthusiasts, the new Canon EOS Rebel XS camera is designed to embody what you have come to expect from the EOS Rebel series — a fast, non-intimidating, lightweight, easy-to-use camera that produces excellent images and starts emerging photographers off on the right foot. Immediately, photographers will take notice of the camera’s Optical Image Stabilized kit lens for crisp focus, compensating for camera shake from unsteady hands or a moving vehicle. The new Rebel model also incorporates Canon’s DIGIC III image processor, 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, Live View, Auto Lighting Optimizer, 7-point wide-area autofocus (AF) sensor and 3.0 frames per second continuous JPEG burst rate where the number of consecutive shots in a burst is only limited by the capacity of the flash memory card in the camera.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars First time digital SLR owner
The Canon Rebel XS is my first digital SLR camera. By no means is it my first Canon. I owned a Canon AE-1, which I was crazy about.

The camera appears to fairly well built, and you have a huge number of lenses from which to choose depending on how much you want to spend. Make sure you purchase lenses that are EF-S, you want the stabilized lenses.

I’m having a little trouble with the auto focus, but I think it’s my problem. Since I’ve only used the camera once, I need to practice more. I’ve ordered a detachable flash to go on the camera. I want the ability to bounce the flash for certain pictures.

All in all I pleased with my purchase. I’ll be even happier when I can purchase the Canon EF-S 70-250mm lense.

5 Stars Snap
Canon had never let me down! This is a great camera for both inspiring and professional photographers. It is easy to use and very reliable.

5 Stars Great camera
This is a great first DSLR. It offers just enough options to begin with, and although it has some limitations it is awesome learning tool.

3 Stars I need more of a beginner camera…..
The reviews I read before purchasing this camera made me believe this would be very easy to use and “a great beginner” camera….Although I really do love this camera, I think I need to take a class before truely getting out of it what I planned. I’m excited to have an SLR camera, but can’t use more than the “auto” mode.

5 Stars Good deal
for $500, this is a much better deal than the point and shoot canon I bought at $330 early last year. I have a toddler. The point and shoot is too slow to capture his move and smile and the details of his face. Point and shoot is very bad under low light. If you have a baby at home, if you can afford $200 extra, please get this $500 deal. I regret I did not buy it in the first place. I could have captured much better pictures when he was a little infant.

5 Stars Small. Good features. Gorgeous picture.
Don’t feel like saying much, just want to get my five-star vote recorded! I’ve owned this a year and would absolutely buy it again.

5 Stars Great camera
We purchased this camera to videotape our 6 months old baby. It really exceeded my expectations with the image quality. It really is high definition. Little expensive, but worth it.

5 Stars EXCELLENT HIGH DEF CAMCORDER
I purchased this Canon hd cam………….after first getting a jvc hd cam.and then returning it I did not care for the quality of the JVC HD Cam, After I saw the quality comparison between the jvc hd camcorder and the canon vixa HF10………..the Canon picture quality was breathtaking.the vivid color,Crispness..and quality …of each shot and scene, Was as good as any movie on HD TV……

canon really dominates the HD Camcorder market in my opinion……If you purchase the Hf 10.I suggest that you purchase the Corel video studio pro..software………….As the software that comes with the canon cam……..would make a good coffee cup coaster…….

5 Stars Amazing camera…and some love for the software
I have had this camera for almost a year now and love it. I can echo all of the other great things said about his unit by others, but the bottom line is that it takes incredible hi-def video, it’s easy to use, and it’s small enough to fit in a closed hand.

I use this camera primarily to record my two teenage children’s rock concerts. Most of this is done in low light, and the sound quality (I did invest in their external microphone which sits nicely in the shoe on top) and video are stunning in hi-def. I copy the videos to a 1TB drive on my home network and access them through the PS3 player and show them on a 60 inch plasma. It is truly amazing and people who see it can’t believe I took the videos myself.

The software provided by PIXELA, ImageMixer 3SE, gets a very bad rap in all the reviews I have seen on Amazon. However, if you are like me and want to a) export video to .mov files for posting on YouTube, b) want to do minor edits/splicing of files together, and c) burn DVDs to give to family, friends, etc, this software works fine. Of course the raw video AVCHD is difficult to work with and it takes a couple of hours to burn a DVD for the first time (which is true of any software you use), but I find this software highly intuitive and not difficult to use for the above tasks. If you take the time to run through the software manual, which is as good as any I’ve seen for such software, you can be doing the three functions above in no time. Now if you want to get fancy around menus, effects, etc, then of course you need to invest in some other high powered application, but frankly I think there are diminishing returns on that investment. Most people who are not professionals want DVDs that can play in any DVD player or computer, with a simple main menu and no fuss or complications. This software delivers that. Another thing is does very well and easily is allow you to capture frames into .jpg files. I don’t think these are “print worthy” photos, but they are more than adequate for posting on-line, and the software allows you to move frame by frame to capture exact seconds in your video.

Full disclosure–I have no affiliation or allegiance to PIXELA, in fact I have never heard of them before I bought this camera.

All in all, this is camera is huge winner.

5 Stars Everything I expected
I don’t have a lot to say about this camera that has not already been covered in other reviews. other than the fact that it has performed as advertised. You can see some of the High Definition results on You Tube at DanoManno. The proof is in the viewing.
