5 Stars LoveIt!
I received my first Canon PowerShot Elph from my brother over 4 years ago. So this was an upgrade for me. I loved my first one and I love this one.My mother has one, too, and she is very pleased with hers as well. I am still getting a feel for my new one, but I am very happy with it! The orange color is awesome! And the fact that you can recharge the battery appeals to my “green” side!

5 Stars Fantastic little camera!
This is a great little camera! You certainly can’t beat the quality for the price. I highly recommend this.

5 Stars Great Point & Shoot Camera
I bought this digital camera after my Canon SD750 broke, and so far it’s been great. Takes great quality pics and it’s very portable. I’m not one of those savvy camera guys where I know a lot about the different options a camera can do. I’m more of a “if it takes good pictures, then I’m sold” type of camera guy and this is a great camera if you’re looking for something you can take anywhere and have a great quality picture. I’ve heard complaints about the navigation buttons on the back, and although it was not as easy to use (as far as the buttons are concerened) as my old SD750, I didn’t find it to be to problematic or annoying. The only thing that could make this camera better is if they removed the optic viewer. It would have given more room for a bigger LCD screen. But that’s just my preference, some people prefer having the optic viewer. So in conclusion, great camera, great price. 100% recommend it to those looking for something simple that’ll do the everyday job of taking nice clean pictures.

5 Stars Excellent for video and pictures, especially underwater!
We live in Guam, where the picture taking possibilities are endless. This little camera takes really great pictures both above water and underwater; we bought the underwater casing and my husband uses it while scuba diving, it takes beautiful underwater pictures and video. The lag time can get a little annoying if the picture preview is on; but that’s just basic digital camera issues. We’ve used this camera for video on several occasions and you wouldn’t be able to tell it was taken with a hand held camera instead of a video camera. When the camera arrived I was a little worried that the orange color would be more pastel, but I was pleasantly surprised by the bright orange color since orange is one of my favorite colors.

I used to be a strictly Nikon person, and I owned the Nikon CoolPix, but it was stolen a while back. We replaced it with this Cannon and it’s made us open our eyes to another brand. We still love Nikon, but Cannon has definitely reserved a spot on our list of favorites. My only complaint between the two is that the Cannon is a little bit thicker than the Nikon and doesn’t fit into my pocket as easily. But it’s still a great little camera to throw into my purse and take everywhere.

5 Stars Canon PowerShot SD1200IS
My wife and I were strolling through the store when she spotted this camera and said that she wanted her own camera, since I hogged the family camera, and that this one was cute. She was ready to purchase immediately, which I talked her out of doing. As a photographer I knew that these decisions took research, reading reviews on the internet and getting potential candidates in your hands to be scrutinized. After two weeks of consideration my research led me to the same camera that she had liked because of its’ size and color.

Canon makes a great camera. Every digital still camera I’ve owned has been a Canon. This camera offers image stabilization, which is a must, and delivers a 10mp image. The mega pixal race has gotten out of hand, being an easy selling point of more pixals must mean better imaging. This is not the case. Often more pixals means more image noise, takes up more space on your computer and requires bigger memory cards.

At any rate, this camera is compact, offers enough shooting variations to please someone with a background in photography and, as my wife says, is cute.

Canon PowerShot SX1IS 10 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 20x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2 8 inch LCD

Put your hand around the perfectly shaped grip of Canon’s sporty new PowerShot SX1 IS and you’re ready for a shooting experience that’s advanced in every way. The 10.0-megapixel SX1 IS is the very first PowerShot equipped with a CMOS sensor, a hallmark of Canon’s lauded EOS line. Unlike the CCD sensors on most digital cameras, CMOS sensors convert and amplify signals before they are transferred to the image processor. This enables the CMOS sensor to produce exceptionally clean image data, free of the stray signals that can mar images. You can also create Full HD movies and see every detail on your HDTV thanks to HDMI output for easy playback of video (1920 x 1080 pixels) at 30fps. Plus, you’ve got an advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology and the Face Detection Self-timer for extraordinary control and performance. This technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed. Zoom – 20x Optical, 4x Digital LCD Monitor – Swivel 2.8-inch TFT color LCD widescreen with wide viewing angle, Approx. 230,000 pixels ISO Sensitivity – Auto, ISO 80/100/200/400/800/1600 equivalent Continuous Shooting – Normal – approx. 4.0 fps; AF – approx. 1.1 fps; LV – approx. 1.2 fps Compression Mode – Still Image – Exif 2.2 (JPEG), RAW; Movie – MOV (H.264) Storage Media – SD/SDHC Memory Card, Multimedia Card, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus Card Number of Recording Pixels – Still Image – up to 3648 x 2736 (Large); Movie – High Definition – up to 1920 x 1080 (30 fps) Video Output – NTSC/PAL Dimensions – 5.02 (W) x 3.48 (H) x 3.45 (D) Weight – 20.6 ounces (camera body)

3 Stars Poor HD movies
I bought the SX1 instead of SX10 because it had the HD capability. Unfortunately, the HD movie looks fragmented. I tried 3 different memory cards, but the HD movies still look fragmented/jerky. It is not worth paying 200$ more for the poor HD feature. I will return the SX1 and get the SX10 instead; it takes the same great pictures and is 200$ less.

1 Star Grainy and Noisy
I was so excited to receive this camera. With a good sized CMOS censor and full HD video I was certain that it would be a killer upgrade from my 3 year old SD630. I can’t articulate how disappointed I was to find that (in my hands) it could not take a single picture that was as good as my hip shots on the SD630. At first I tried comparing old photos (in similar environments) to the new ones taken with the SX1 but after many “failures” I decided to shoot the very same shot with both cameras. What I found is inexplicable. The 6MP CCD camera consistently produced cleaner photos than the SX1. The two most glaring deficits of the SX1 were graininess and noise. I did manage to take some usable shots outside just before sunset with ISO 80 and a tripod, but even those were noticeably lower quality than photos taken on the SD630 the week before.

Needless to say I sent this camera back. I’ll be sticking with my SD630 until the G11 is released. I think Canon might need another generation to work out the kinks in this sensor.

4 Stars Great Camera
I love this camera. The 1080p movies on this thing are amazing. I have been amazed by the quality of video I’ve been able to shoot. The camera is also great. I’m getting great daytime pictures no matter how much I push the zoom. Darker shots have been much more difficult. Without the flash, my results have been poor at any distance. The flash is very bright and the best range is about 6 – 10 feet.

This camera is pretty easy to cary around and uses AA batteries that you can purchase anywhere.

1 Star Very disappointed
I’ve had several Canon cameras over the years. I decided to buy this one as a replacement for my lost A650. In general, Canons are very good cameras, with well thought-out menus and controls. Not this model. For some reason Canon decided to scrap all that was good about their cameras and make it much, MUCH worse:

– using menus and changing shooting settings is like navigating a maze. Even if you’re used to other Canon models this one is unlike the others.. very unintuitive.

– it has a dial for selecting settings and options. The dial quality feels cheap, is quite unresponsive and inconvenient to use.

– it’s a battery hog. It takes four AA batteries and even with fully-charged 2600 mA NiMH batteries it’s out of juice in couple of days.

– the lens doesn’t retract but has a lens cap instead. You have to put it on/off every time you want to take a shot.

– it’s fairly bulky and quite heavy, a big drawback if you’re travelling or have to carry it around all day.

To sum up, this camera is overpriced for what it is. You can get similar models for much less. Alternatively, for just a little more you can get yourself an SLR.

5 Stars A lot of camera in a small package
I had an SX3 but dropped it :(

I liked it so much, I had begun leaving my Nikon full size digital SLR’s at home. So I grabbed this SX1 with the promise of not dropping it high on my ‘things to not-do’ list.

You’ll read all the good stuff that everyone posts- and I agree but here are some very minor downsides:

- Battery life when using flash… sucks big time.

- You need an annoying filter adapter to use any filters. The threads you see in the front of the lens look and smell like 52mm, but they are not cut as threads, they are concentric rings. For some reason, you need a bayonet type mount adapter to run a filter in front. I always mount a UV (clear glass) in front to protect the lens itself. I also bought a 52>62mm step-up ring and a 62mm UV. This causes a shadow during extreme close up macro, so that’s the downside to a 62mm, but there is no vignetting on the super-wide settings, so that’s a plus.

Love that wide angle lens, and the telephoto is particularly intense.

I like the huge live display screen.

5 Stars Excellent camera for traveling
I just took this camera to Prague, and I have to say I am really happy with my purchase. This camera is extremely good at taking sharp pictures. In the Cathedrals, and other locations that did not allow flash photography I was able to take great shots in low light after disabling the flash – this was awful on my previous camera. The camera is complex and I was still learning as I went along on my trip but the images are amazing – just might want to spend some time before you take it on a long trip. Also its small enough to easily stick in your front pocket so that you can forget about it until you want to pull it out for a picture. I have no issues recommending this camera!

5 Stars Great Quality
Purchased this camera because I dropped our last one on a concrete floor and fractured the lens. I love this camera, it’s easy to use, takes great pictures, has the image stability feature which in a small camera is a must.

5 Stars Motorcycle trip
I had it on a shoe lace around my neck on my Pacific northwest adventure tour of 2366 miles, taking pictures at 65 miles per hour with my left hand and I thought the camera performed flawlessly, in all types of weather conditions.

the pictures turned out great, the on/off button was a little too close to the picture taking button, sometimes turning the camera off in the excitement of the moment.otherwise a great camera, highly reccommended.

5 Stars Best little shooter this side of San Francisco
I got this camera as a gift for christmas 2008. Usually I use Nikon so I was a litle reluctant to think of this one as nothing more than just “basic.” Wrong! It took me a a day or so to read the manual and get used to the settings but after that I was shooting classics. If you want a day/date stamp it will do it but only on the lower pixel end. If you want to shoot 3648×2736 or something like that you won’t be able to set a day/date stamp on it. Only with the software when you’re done shooting. I shoot on the high end and then order 11×16 or 16×22 photos or poster prints. The pictures framed look just like pictures taken at a portrait studio. Even the 1600×1200 look great blown up.

I am not very keen on photo techniques for shooting pics. But with this little camera I enjoy learning and making history moments with my 2 year old son. The camera even has a a video and voice cam. I use like an 8GB SD card when I do that so I have more storage space. The LCD screen is really excellent I am not kidding.

I love setting the camera on “kids and pets” for those fast action shots. Ever try catching a two 1/2 year old standing still? It ain’t easy let me tell you. I took him to a studio before I bought this camera and the guy shot like 150 photos to get just three good ones! Now if you was using film you would be spending a ton of money trying to get a good shot. With this camera you can shoot continuous rapid shots (if you want) or close ups and when you’re done you can delete the ones you don’t want or upload them to your computer and edit from there. I shoot and transfer to my computer and order prints online. Or take them into a dock at CVS drugs.(A cameras pictures are only as good as the company that developes them.)

This one is made in Japan. I have not had any problems with it even after my son knocked it on the floor from my book cabinet. My portable DVD player didn’t fair so well. If you want to test something see what happens after a two Y.O. gets a hold of it.

There are 100’s of cameras on the market but this is a good dependable little camera. Shop around read reviews before you buy. Canon PowerShot SD790IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized ZoomI wouldn’t pay more than 299.00 for it. I paid that much but I have seen them as low as 235.00. Happy shoot’n!

4 Stars still learning to use
I have not had the camera long enough to become thoroughly familiar with all of its features or any limitatins.

4 Stars Canon DC410 camcorder
Not sure what the other reviewer is talking about, but I have this camera and it definitely comes with a USB port and cable. It is very easy to use and takes great pictures.

1 Star Bad product design DC 410
Cannon’s DC 410 is a bad product by design. No USB connectivity and very difficult to use. I bought it to replace my Sony DCR 550. No match to the

Sony, esp which has USB, touch screen and extremely easy to use.

Guess what? I returned DC 410 and got a Sony DCR 650. I am not sure if

the Cannon product designers and marketing was thinking to put this product in the market. I shall probably not buy a Cannon camcorder ever and would

recommend you to not even consider DC 410 while shopping a camcorder.

4 Stars It does what we want it to do.
We bought this camcorder to document the lives of our children. So far we’ve had no trouble. It takes a reasonably clear video and we really like the zoom. I’ve been a fan of Canon since my old AE-1 in high school so we knew we weren’t going to be disappointed. I read the other reviews and wanted to make a clarification: This camcorder (DC410) does NOT have a USB connection to the computer. There’s a jack for a microphone and for AV out. The av out can go to a TV or to a computer if you have the right setup but will not connect to the average computer. This didn’t really bother me since I never planned on storing terabytes of video on the laptop!

The DC410 is very easy to use if you spend a little time reading the instructions. You might want to get an extra battery, I was lucky since it uses the same one as my digital camera (Rebel XTi).

2 Stars It falls short of my expectations
This camera has many flaws that are important to understand before buying. First is a limitation of the DVD in recording length. 30 min is the default with 60 minutes max at the sacrifice of video quality.

Consider that Mini-DV tapes will support 60 min at highest quality.

These 3 inch DVD disks are difficult to handle under perfect conditions. I wanted to use this camera for outdoors events but it would be too easy to get fingerprints on the recording surface to take chances without clean hands and dry conditions. The disks are small and have to be forced onto the spindle without touching the recording surface.

Another limitation is that the least expensive DVD disks are DVD-R write once only which makes it impossible to edit what you shoot. They can’t be erased. Scenes deleted so be sure you don’t record anything with them you might regret later. It supports DVD-RW Write Many format also but considering how easy it is to mess up the recording surface don’t expect them to last forever.

The greatest problem with this device is that the DVD drive is limited to only three brands of disks. This makes the DVD recorder not very well supported for using with the video.

The DVD drive does not support all DVD formats available. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW: YOU MUST USE ONLY DVD-R, DVD-R DL, or DVD-RW FORMATS. Notice it is a MINUS – not a plus +. (Amazon.com bundles this with a 3 pack of DVD+RW disks which are not ever going to work with this camera so don’t include it like I did.)

To make matters worse you cannot just use any 3 inch DVD-R disks. The camera claims to only support 1-layer Hitachi-Maxwell HG series disks or 2 layer Canon DVD-R DL54 and Verbatim DVD-R DL disks. (Not Sony, which is the brand Amazon.com recommends.)

If you decide to risk it and use an unsupported disk, every time the camera is turned on you will get a dire warning that using this disk is not supported and you run the risk of damaging the camera or end up with poor/no video. I could only find Maxell DVD-R DS and TDK-RW at Rite-Aid. Both will work with the camera but the warnings are enough to make me believe I should try to buy disks it won’t complain about. It is very annoying that it doesn’t support both – and + formats like most dvd recorders to start with. I would suggest that if you want a DVD camcorder, look for one that can use both +/- if possible and supports all manufacturers disks.

The camera also lacks a firewire port so you can’t use it with a computer to capture the video stream. The model 410 has an AV port and microphone jack. It does not have a USB port. The model 420 USB doesn’t support the video just the photo feature and takes the place of the microphone jack.

The last disappointment with this camera is the image stabilization feature is awful. The video becomes so shaky that people will think you have been drinking or you are filming an earthquake. Even on a stable tripod the video was not stable even if focused on inanimate objects.

All the reasons I wanted to get this camera are total disappointments for me. I wish I would have chosen a different camera with better DVD support or one that records to flash memory, and probably not from Canon.

P.S NO software with the camera for editing the video or the photos!
