I received my first Canon PowerShot Elph from my brother over 4 years ago. So this was an upgrade for me. I loved my first one and I love this one.My mother has one, too, and she is very pleased with hers as well. I am still getting a feel for my new one, but I am very happy with it! The orange color is awesome! And the fact that you can recharge the battery appeals to my “green” side!

5 Stars Great Point & Shoot Camera
I bought this digital camera after my Canon SD750 broke, and so far it’s been great. Takes great quality pics and it’s very portable. I’m not one of those savvy camera guys where I know a lot about the different options a camera can do. I’m more of a “if it takes good pictures, then I’m sold” type of camera guy and this is a great camera if you’re looking for something you can take anywhere and have a great quality picture. I’ve heard complaints about the navigation buttons on the back, and although it was not as easy to use (as far as the buttons are concerened) as my old SD750, I didn’t find it to be to problematic or annoying. The only thing that could make this camera better is if they removed the optic viewer. It would have given more room for a bigger LCD screen. But that’s just my preference, some people prefer having the optic viewer. So in conclusion, great camera, great price. 100% recommend it to those looking for something simple that’ll do the everyday job of taking nice clean pictures.
5 Stars Excellent for video and pictures, especially underwater!
We live in Guam, where the picture taking possibilities are endless. This little camera takes really great pictures both above water and underwater; we bought the underwater casing and my husband uses it while scuba diving, it takes beautiful underwater pictures and video. The lag time can get a little annoying if the picture preview is on; but that’s just basic digital camera issues. We’ve used this camera for video on several occasions and you wouldn’t be able to tell it was taken with a hand held camera instead of a video camera. When the camera arrived I was a little worried that the orange color would be more pastel, but I was pleasantly surprised by the bright orange color since orange is one of my favorite colors.
I used to be a strictly Nikon person, and I owned the Nikon CoolPix, but it was stolen a while back. We replaced it with this Cannon and it’s made us open our eyes to another brand. We still love Nikon, but Cannon has definitely reserved a spot on our list of favorites. My only complaint between the two is that the Cannon is a little bit thicker than the Nikon and doesn’t fit into my pocket as easily. But it’s still a great little camera to throw into my purse and take everywhere.
5 Stars Canon PowerShot SD1200IS
My wife and I were strolling through the store when she spotted this camera and said that she wanted her own camera, since I hogged the family camera, and that this one was cute. She was ready to purchase immediately, which I talked her out of doing. As a photographer I knew that these decisions took research, reading reviews on the internet and getting potential candidates in your hands to be scrutinized. After two weeks of consideration my research led me to the same camera that she had liked because of its’ size and color.
Canon makes a great camera. Every digital still camera I’ve owned has been a Canon. This camera offers image stabilization, which is a must, and delivers a 10mp image. The mega pixal race has gotten out of hand, being an easy selling point of more pixals must mean better imaging. This is not the case. Often more pixals means more image noise, takes up more space on your computer and requires bigger memory cards.
At any rate, this camera is compact, offers enough shooting variations to please someone with a background in photography and, as my wife says, is cute.

Decided we would go with the cheaper model since the last one locked up on vacation and, as you know, cameras – no matter what you pay – are disposable items, when something goes wrong, there is no one to fix them, you simply buy a new one. This model is less expensive than our previous Cannon, and definitely feels cheaper. Case design, material etc, feels cheap but sturdy, it is a nice size, and takes the same memory chips as the previous one (different battery though). The controls are almost the same as the other, and it says it will take almost the same range of pictures as the higher end Cannon – less zoom though. There viewfinder is also missing on this model. As far as the purchase, everything was great – came as promised, etc, well packed, everything was there and worked. We have yet to use it other than to download pictures from the previous camera. Software was the same, so overall this is a good purchase so far.

Easy to use,very good battery life,Pictures are true to color. Red or blue looks very nice. 1 to 2 secs between shots, with flash on 4 to 6 secs,start up time is 1.5 to 2 secs. I use 2 aa energizer lithium batterys or 2650 to 2900mah rechargable batterys and can get 600 pictures. A 2 gig sd card san disk ultra II or III will give you about 750 pictures. The lcd screen is not the greatest but not bad for the price,it just will not show you how good your pictures really are. This camera does not have image stabilzertion but still does very well with out it.

I have several more expensive Canon cameras and bought this one for a student. I ran it through its paces first, and came away with a very favorable impression for a 10MP camera that sells for barely over $100. It is very easy to use and the picture quality is excellent. I like that it uses AA batteries which are easy to find anywhere. In addition to its standard “automatic” mode it has several options for “custom” modes. It has the normal “macro” setting for close-ups, but it has even another mode for very extreme close-ups which I find handy. It also records good video with sound, and you can play it back in various slow motion speeds if you want, in the camera or on a big screen TV. All in all I give it very high marks and especially for its price range. Its only disadvantage I could find is it is just a bit thicker than other small pocket cameras.

I am a real estate agent so I have been through a lot of point and shoot cameras. While I use a Rebel SLR to take my main pics, I chose this one to take anywhere since it’s small enough to pack and forget. The price is right, the quality is great, and it’s easy to use. Very intuitive. It is also easy to download pics to a computer. Actually this is my 2nd one. My kids dropped the first one and the zoom motor was broken, frozen in place. I can’t really blame the camera given that they dropped it from pretty high onto a hard tile floor. I figured that my shipping, return, hassle, etc. would cost more than the camera so I just immediately ordered a new one. That’s why I didn’t give it 5 stars. But still, at this price, it can’t be beat, in my opinion.

3 Stars Poor HD movies
I bought the SX1 instead of SX10 because it had the HD capability. Unfortunately, the HD movie looks fragmented. I tried 3 different memory cards, but the HD movies still look fragmented/jerky. It is not worth paying 200$ more for the poor HD feature. I will return the SX1 and get the SX10 instead; it takes the same great pictures and is 200$ less.
1 Star Grainy and Noisy
I was so excited to receive this camera. With a good sized CMOS censor and full HD video I was certain that it would be a killer upgrade from my 3 year old SD630. I can’t articulate how disappointed I was to find that (in my hands) it could not take a single picture that was as good as my hip shots on the SD630. At first I tried comparing old photos (in similar environments) to the new ones taken with the SX1 but after many “failures” I decided to shoot the very same shot with both cameras. What I found is inexplicable. The 6MP CCD camera consistently produced cleaner photos than the SX1. The two most glaring deficits of the SX1 were graininess and noise. I did manage to take some usable shots outside just before sunset with ISO 80 and a tripod, but even those were noticeably lower quality than photos taken on the SD630 the week before.
Needless to say I sent this camera back. I’ll be sticking with my SD630 until the G11 is released. I think Canon might need another generation to work out the kinks in this sensor.
4 Stars Great Camera
I love this camera. The 1080p movies on this thing are amazing. I have been amazed by the quality of video I’ve been able to shoot. The camera is also great. I’m getting great daytime pictures no matter how much I push the zoom. Darker shots have been much more difficult. Without the flash, my results have been poor at any distance. The flash is very bright and the best range is about 6 – 10 feet.
This camera is pretty easy to cary around and uses AA batteries that you can purchase anywhere.
1 Star Very disappointed
I’ve had several Canon cameras over the years. I decided to buy this one as a replacement for my lost A650. In general, Canons are very good cameras, with well thought-out menus and controls. Not this model. For some reason Canon decided to scrap all that was good about their cameras and make it much, MUCH worse:
– using menus and changing shooting settings is like navigating a maze. Even if you’re used to other Canon models this one is unlike the others.. very unintuitive.
– it has a dial for selecting settings and options. The dial quality feels cheap, is quite unresponsive and inconvenient to use.
– it’s a battery hog. It takes four AA batteries and even with fully-charged 2600 mA NiMH batteries it’s out of juice in couple of days.
– the lens doesn’t retract but has a lens cap instead. You have to put it on/off every time you want to take a shot.
– it’s fairly bulky and quite heavy, a big drawback if you’re travelling or have to carry it around all day.
To sum up, this camera is overpriced for what it is. You can get similar models for much less. Alternatively, for just a little more you can get yourself an SLR.
5 Stars A lot of camera in a small package
I had an SX3 but dropped it 
I liked it so much, I had begun leaving my Nikon full size digital SLR’s at home. So I grabbed this SX1 with the promise of not dropping it high on my ‘things to not-do’ list.
You’ll read all the good stuff that everyone posts- and I agree but here are some very minor downsides:
- Battery life when using flash… sucks big time.
- You need an annoying filter adapter to use any filters. The threads you see in the front of the lens look and smell like 52mm, but they are not cut as threads, they are concentric rings. For some reason, you need a bayonet type mount adapter to run a filter in front. I always mount a UV (clear glass) in front to protect the lens itself. I also bought a 52>62mm step-up ring and a 62mm UV. This causes a shadow during extreme close up macro, so that’s the downside to a 62mm, but there is no vignetting on the super-wide settings, so that’s a plus.
Love that wide angle lens, and the telephoto is particularly intense.
I like the huge live display screen.
