5 Stars Canon MP980 3 in 1 Printer
I love this printer. It’s doing great with photos without a lot of photoshopping. It copies perfectly and scan great. The wireless feature has not been utilized, so I don’t know if it’s easy or hard to set that up. I’m also wondering if it’s taking a lot of ink to print…too new to tell for sure.

5 Stars So far so good
I bought this AIO primarily for the film scan function, and for the wifi.

Both work great. It’s not my first Canon, nor is it my first in the MP/MX series, so setting it up was very easy for me. Here in France it shipped with a USB cable, as well as just one “getting started/set up manual.” It also came with a “wireless troubleshooting” guide, but so far I haven’t had to use that, fingers crossed!

After removing all the Styrofoam, I pulled it out of the box while it was wrapped in a sturdy plastic bag with handles. I liked that; I always get nervous when removing large, expensive electronics from their cartons, fear of it slipping, etc….the handles made it much easier.

I followed the simple set up instructions in the guide, and found putting in the ink head no more difficult than the other Canons I’ve had. I don’t see why people were annoyed by this step. Once I got to the prompt to do the head alignment, and saw it was going to to take 6 or 7 minutes, I decided to install the drivers and software on my PC and my wife’s Mac. I unticked all the frivolous stuff like OCR, EasyPhoto Print, etc. I figured I could go back and do those later. Installing the drivers and MP Navigator (for the scanner) took about 5 minutes on both machines. I set up the wifi on my PC first. I have a Dell laptop, running 64 bit Windows7 RC. The printer and PC found each other right away, with barely no intervention on my part. I think I just needed to enter the wifi password. Then I did it on the MacBook, and it was even easier than it was with my last Canon, an MP600.

I then tried the “scan film negatives” function, and at first flipped out, cause I thought you can only scan film to print. Then I read in the guide that it’s in another part of the menu. So I scanned some negatives, B&W and color, and sent them to my PC, then I repeated the steps and sent them to the Mac. They look pretty good on both. I might need to tweak some settings to get more depth and clarity, but I think the slide scan function works incredibly well.

Then I printed some documents from both machines, 20-30 pages in all, 10 of which were presentations, and checked the ink levels. I’d read some scary comments about ink levels. All inks are still full. I haven’t printed pics yet, so it might be too early, but I’d be surprised if it consumes any more ink than my MP600 did, which wasn’t a lot.

1 Star chunk of *%#*
What a pile!

This thing may be able to copy photos, but it’s print quality for photos is crap. It grunts and grinds and takes forever to print anything. It needs a 6-ink cartridge, and runs through it way too fast. And it’s huge, taking up 3X as much space as my last printer, which made far superior photo prints. Cannon makes great cameras, but this printer does not deserve to be called a Cannon.

1 Star NOT GOOD
The printer takes a long time to get ready to print.

The color ink cartridges ran out of ink after about 10 photo prints.

The “ColorValue Pack” did not have a gray cartridge. I assumed that you would offer the correct one.

I am not very happy with my purchase.

3 Stars no gray no print
Don’t waste time on this printer. The old saying “More is Less”. Is what the MP980 is. If you need six ink cartridge to print then go find another printer. Check out the listings here at amazon, one of the cartridge that should be in a pack is missing. Gray is the first to empty and can not be found locally. Without any cartridge the printer will not print and gray is the main ink for all printing, color or black and white. If canon made this cartridge as big as the PGI-220 Black then I would not be here going online to get two of the grey before any of the other colors are half empty.

Again don’t waste time on this printer.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Works great with my printer, but
Good product, but ink price is causing me to cut back on prints.

Went out and bought a used Laser Printer, for text prints.

5 Stars There is more than one Cyan Ink!
I’ve owned several printers in the past and tried all of the so-called Canon substitutes. As most of us know, they simply do not work as well.

So when I purchased the Canon printer I am currently using, I promised never to use an ink other than Canon. Although they cost much more than the substitutes, the prices on Amazon seem to be the most favorable.

But I did run into a snag. I searched cyan blue on the Amazon site and order a tank. When I went to replace several colors, all went well until I tried to set the Cyan blue in place. Nothing! After several attempts, I suddenly realized that the tank I was attempting to replace was a CLI-8C and I had unkowingly purchased a CLI-8PC – Photo Cyan. I contacted Canon and was told the printer would not accept the Photo Cyan.

Certainly not the end of the world. But I do wish the product listing on Amazon contained some sort of warning about the difference. I then searched for cyan blue on Amazon and finally found it way down in the listing and purchased a tank. However, I would suggest that the search and/or listing be modified in some way to distinguish between the two inks.

5 Stars Prefer Canon Ink
Have been using Canon 8 ink in my Canon Pixma iP520 photo printer for over 3 years. I sell prints from this printer.

I teach digital photography and recommend printer manufacturer’s inks to assure quality results. “Compatible ink” means ink cartridge will work in that printer. Quality varies considerably.

5 Stars Canon Pixma ink
Overall, the Canon Pixma printers (IP6600D in our case) exceed our expectations for photo quality. It is at lease as good as processed photos at retailers (i.e.: Costco), about the same cost, but clearly more convenient.

Additionally, the “6600″ has an easy to use duplexing capability that is easy to access when printing text pages, saving substantially on wasted paper.

With regard to the inks, I believe the quality, tones, and accuracy is excellent.

5 Stars ink is ink
Great product and great quality. But one con: Staples has got this this brand ink for as cheap as $13.49 a tank.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Little Portable Printer
This is a great liitle portable printer. It is easy to operate and prints great quality printing. Have not tried printing photos yet.

5 Stars Canon iP100 Printer
I ordered this printer in August and the delivery was very prompt. I have been looking for a small printer that I could take with me when I travel. I finally found the size I required in the Canon iP100. I read some reviews before I purchased the printer – some good and some confusing. There were a few parts to be installed before it was ready for use. I found the instructions very simple and easy to follow and the installation was no problem. I have been very pleased overall with the printer. The printing speed is very quick and I can print photos as well as plain paper.

4 Stars Canon ip100 Printer
I am very satisfied with the ip100 printer. I replaced an i80 printer. I am not satisfied with the mobile feature that allows wireless printing. I purdhased the bluetooth adapter. I cannot get it to work. There were no installation instructions. I hope customer service can help install it. This part of the printer needs better direction and instruction for the purchaser. As stated above the printer is a very good purchase.

5 Stars Capable Little Portable Printer
For an inkjet printer, this model is fairly expensive but there is an elegance about its design that appeals to me; especially when I need a versatile printer while traveling. This printer is about the same width and depth as a NETbook computer and about twice as thick. Print quality of text and color graphics on plain copy paper is excellent. This printer also does a superb and reasonably fast job of making photo-lab-quality color prints up to 8

Canon CLI 8M Magenta Ink Tank

If you use your Canon Pixma printer for photo printing, you might have observed that the color cartridges seem to drain fast. The engineers at Canon are aware of this and have helped resolve the problem. Instead of requiring a complete ink cartridge replacement, the cartridge was designed as 2 modules: cartridge transfer mechanism and an ink tank. This is the ink tank. It’s a refill for your ink cartridge and is an economical way of adding ink without having to pay for an entire cartridge. It’s a sensible alternative.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Canon Ink Preferred
Have been using Canon 8 ink in my Canon Pixma iP520 photo printer for over 3 years. I sell prints from this printer.

I teach digital photography and recommend printer manufacturer’s inks to assure quality results. “Compatible ink” means ink cartridge will work in that printer. Quality varies considerably.

5 Stars Canon CLI-8M Ink Tank – Magenta
I use the CLI-8Y Yellow Ink Tank for my Canon IP4200. All my ink tanks typically get used up at almost the same rate on the Canon IP4200 so I usually just order the Canon CLI-8 4-Color Multipack Ink Tanks package, which consists of: Magenta CLI-8M (this ink tank), Cyan CLI-8C, Yellow CLI-8Y, and CLI-8Bk Black.

*If you need all 4 colors, the Canon CLI-8 4-Color Multipack Ink Tanks is a much better deal.*

Quality

——-

The CLI-8 ink tanks produce pleasing tones and true-to-life colors for photos. I find that the high quality photo prints rival those from the photo lab.

Compatibility

————-

The CLI-8C, CLI-8M, CLI-8Y, and CLI-8Bk Ink Tanks are compatible with the Canon IP and MP Inkjets. DO NOT confuse these ink tanks with the closely-named CLI-8P ink tank series: CLI-8PC and CLI-8PM – these ink tanks are NOT NECESSARILY compatible with your printer. If you have a 5-tank printer, chances are the CLI-8PC and CLI-8PM aren’t compatible with your printer!

Value

—–

I stint on ink and print my documents almost exclusive in grayscale at the DRAFT quality mode (my Canon IP4200 printer uses the CLI-8 color cartridges even though I don’t print in color). I can get about a full ream’s worth of paper (double-sided) on 1 cartridge. However, with higher quality printer, the color ink cartridges get consumed much more quickly.

It is evident from the reviews that the price of ink is a major concern for most people. You should ideally use only genuine Canon ink cartridges but if you’re strapped for cash, you can purchase the cheaper generic versions (non-OEM) of the CLI-8 cartridges.

- CLI-8 4-Pack

- CLI-8 Magenta <-- non-OEM equivalent of this cartridge (Canon CLI-8M)

- CLI-8 Cyan

- CLI-8 Yellow

- CLI-8 Black

I have not verified that they do in fact work as claimed so try them at your own risk!

Bottom Line

———–

The Canon CLI-8C/M/Y/BK ink cartridges may be expensive, but they deliver consistently high quality text and photo prints.

3 Stars Ink is fine; cost isn’t
We have all been warned that this is the strategy followed by many printer companies – keep printer prices low and charge relatively high prices for the ink. This is certainly the case here – I paid just under $15. In about a month, it is already below half and I do very little color printing.

Other than that, the ink and the printer works very well (I have a Canon MX 700).

3 Stars Canon MP830 printer magenta ink
My husband insisted on the Canon printer because it’s supposed to print better quality photos. What we didn’t know was that we had to get Canon photo paper; it will not print correctly on Kodak or other photo papers. That aside, the printer ink colors are OK, but the printer goes through more ink than any HP printer I’ve ever owned. The ink is fine, the printer just seems to run out too quickly, particularly the cyan and magenta colors. My next printer will be another HP printer.

3 Stars Rip-off
The ink works well. No problems. But as you know all printer inks are a real rip-off.
